About Drills and Power Tools

The building I live in hosts 70 apartments. When one neighbor finishes redoing their apartment another one starts. When they use power drills the sound level goes over 100db.

I work night shifts so I can only sleep during the day when they are allowed to make this kind of noise.

I was wondering if there are any gadgets that can help with my problem. I heard some things about white noise generators, would they do the trick?

I got the drill yesterday and worked fine all day but did spell a bit burning but just because it was new, anyway was drilling a hole in wood (no electrical cables were hit) just the wood was hit and suddenly a blue flash came out the drill and a small pop, i havent used it since then, i suppose it wasnt the fuse because thats in the plug, so is it safe to use again or what ?
yes it was brand new, bought off ebay so will ask for refund
