Milwaukee cordless drill grip has dissolved to mush, any idea why?

My Milwaukee cordless drill has (had) a rubber coating on the grip. Over time (~8 yrs) this rubber has deteriorated totally, turning to sticky, gummy mush. I had to scrape it all off, otherwise it would turn my hands black every time I use it. The drill hasn’t had a hard life, usually kept in its carrying case in my garage. Has anybody else experienced this? I know a lot of tools have this type of grip so it must work pretty well. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard of…Maybe it’s due to some kind of condensation forming in the case? Maybe it was a “bad batch” of grip material at the factory? I really don’t know…I have many Milwaukee tools and have NEVER had this same problem, and I leave mine OUT in the shop(don’t actually know where the original cases ARE..)If it was me, I’d wrap the grips in tape and KEEP ON DRILLIN’!!!——good luck!!

Never heard of that kind of problem before. Could be a number of things, but I guess it doesn’t matter since knowing what happened won’t solve the problem.
You can always go to the sporting goods section of a department store and get some of that soft rubber tape used to wrap the handle section of a baseball bat. Check out the golf section too, I think golf clubs use something similar.
