Why are there sparks inside my cordless drill?

I have a Black & Decker 14v cordless drill (used maybe once or twice). When I run it, it looks like there are sparks inside visible through the slots on the side. Is this normal?

The drill runs on a permanent magnet, DC motor. The motor has spring loaded brushes that push against the commutator and spark when it rotates.
It’s normal.

The rotor striking the brushes as it rotates it is normal but not for newer drill.

I work in commercial construction and have used all kinds of makes and models of drills, they all do it. Its just the motor.

The commutator on the contacts making the commutator on the motor rotor they indicate little spark they are harmless and common.
The brushes on the spinning motor rotor they indicate little roughness in the motor frame touch the contact brushes on the brushes on.
